Whiteford Woman Saved by Sound of Smoke Alarm

Whiteford, MD—An overnight fire destroyed a home and left a 71-year-old woman displaced, but she was able to escape safely after being awakened by the sound of her smoke alarm. The Maryland State Fire Marshal emphasized that “smoke alarms save lives,” as the alarm provided enough warning for the resident to evacuate quickly and reach a neighbor who called 911.
