Suburban Couple Says Free Smoke Detector Installed by Firefighters Helped Save Their Lives

Arlington Heights, IL—A couple credits a recently installed smoke alarm for saving their lives and their home after a kitchen fire just before Thanksgiving. The smoke detector, installed free of charge by the local fire department only three months earlier, alerted them in time to escape safely with their dog, despite significant damage to their house.
